Government Official States Ministry of Defence Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively examining the possible threats associated with Chinese-made cars, while personnel have been instructed to avoid discussing secret information in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for Defence Personnel

During a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese cars.

The minister said that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however stressed that security is a concern in every contemporary cars.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a car from another country, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, due to the growing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to only have those confidential conversations in protected areas. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Wider Security Background

The revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable buses and cause disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The wider security environment underscores the significance of robust protocols and caution in all areas of official operations, including transport use to communication practices.
