The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the top division and handed Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the first half to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

This victory moves Thomas Frank's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and are six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils duties at each end of pitch

Following a drab weekday performance in the Champions League against Monaco, where they mustered a mere two shots on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the novelty may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the exits after Sarr's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal combined before Sunday's outing.

The striker's performance was epitomized when he chose to overhead kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a more conventional attempt that would have tested Vicario.
