At the same time, the north-eastern Polish territory, which likewise adjoins Belarus, has registered in excess of 100 cases in which contraband was flown from its adjacent country employing the balloons.

Criminal Methodology

In response to questions about why smugglers utilize a technique that proves highly susceptible to weather elements rather than easier to manage drones, officials clarified that "Weather devices are simple mechanisms used by smugglers - they are more economical than drones for carrying smoking materials from Belarus."

Security Service Goals

Representatives further stated that "Our services' aim is to capture the greatest possible amounts of illegal goods and to arrest masterminds and perpetrators so that this activity become not financially viable and create minimal risk to passenger aircraft."

Similar occurrences in nearby states have caused EU officials to fast-track conversations about enhancing aerial security throughout the continent.
